My Calligraphy and Illumination
Here are some meager samples of my calligraphy and
illumination. To date, only two peices scanned up here, but I've
been at this hobby since late 1995 or so (I forget).
My best work so far has been for friends, so if you would like
something special, I'm much more reasonable than a professional,
and the challenge will drive up my quality.
For now, here are some pictures you can look at. I'd like to
improve upon these some day soon with quite a few more. (But
first, I need a colour scanner)
Cheers!
- A celtic-based piece, commissioned by Susanne Bell, a
friend. She wanted a modified serenity prayer, addressed
to Goddess. I chose a Book of Kells style hand and knot.
The knot is a pair of cats entwined in a 'G'. Here is the knot. Here is the entire piece. (You
may need to increase the Brightness setting on your
monitor to see the colours as they appear on the original
piece).
- An award I did within the SCA for a friend of mine, my
first attempt at people. As you can see, it's not very
fancy and the colours are a little garish, but I'm not
too proud to display it here. Boy, I'd love to say it's
the scanner's fault the colours are off, but it's just
not true... Anyhow, here is the whole
page (real size... about 8"x10"), and here is the blowup of the miniature.
- An award I did within the SCA for another friend, this
actually being the first award I've ever done for the new
Kingdom of Ealdormere. I'm not as happy as I could be
with the calligraphy, but I am quite happy with the way
the whitework on the vines worked out, I've come a long
way with that. The Kingdom is so new that the award text
doesn't even exist yet, and had to be left out. I
anticipate scanning a few close-up details, and another
version of the whole, which will include the painted
capital letters and the full scroll text of the complete
work. The arms featured in the bottom corner are the arms
of the recipient. Here is the
scroll.
